Root out the stinky intruder

By volunteering in the Park, you are helping us in the implementation of the project Establishing control of  invasive alien species tree of heaven - „pajasen“ (Ailanthus altissima).

The activities of the project are determination of the initial situation, removal of pajasen (tree of heaven), prevention of its further spread and regular monitoring. The aim of the programme is to remove tree of heaven, an invasive species that is threatening habitats that are most threatened and are also targeted habitat types of Natura 2000.


Duties and responsibilities
- monitoring of the area in accordance with the monitoring protocol, as well as filling in accompanying field forms
- remove trees of heaven – pulling and/or digging up plants (by hand or using tools)
- removal of plant material from the location (participation in cleaning the area)

4-5

Volunteering period
In April and/or  October 2024

Working hours
From five to seven hours a day (from Monday to Friday).
The minimum volunteering time is 4 days, and the maximum is 7 days.

What are the qualities a volunteer should have?
- desire and willingness for fieldwork 
- an affinity for teamwork
- Knowledge of working with forest tools (ability to work with a saw) - desirable, not a requirement

Volunteering with a disability
Due to the configuration of the terrain, this volunteer position is not suitable for persons with disabilities.
Languages
Volunteers from foreign countries can only volunteer if they understand and speak English.

Location
Vela Sestrica island and grassland in Čuh polje inside Nature Park

Accommodation
Accommodation is provided in Sali (apartment accommodation), double and triple rooms - costs of the accommodation are covered by the project.

Food
Food is provided free of charge and it includes two meals a day.

Transport 
Transportation is provided within the Park (from the accommodation to the work areas).

Equipment
All field work equipment is provided (single use gloves, garden gloves, garden scissors, hoes).
